how to make a windowsill garden

These are great if you are short on space.
What you’ll need:
Small pots or containers
Soil or compost
Herb or flower seeds (e.g. basil, lavender, or marigolds)
A sunny windowsill
Collect your pots and make sure they have drainage holes. You could use mini plant plots, or poke a couple of holes in the bottom of old yoghurt pots, butter tubs or tin cans. How many pots you use is up to you and the size of your windowsill.
Fill each pot with soil, leaving some space at the top.
Sow your seeds according to the instructions on the seed packet. Some plants need a bit more space than others, so if you’re using one large pot instead of several smaller ones, keep this in mind.
Water your pots carefully and regularly, around every 2 days, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. Place your pots on a tray to collect any excess water that drains out and discard this water so that your pots don’t end up sitting in it.
Put your pots in a sunny spot and watch your windowsill garden bloom! You should see shoots start to emerge in around a week’s time.
Top tip: most herbs prefer temperatures from 12-21 degrees C, and get more light on south- or east-facing windowsills.
