About the Event
Following the old Hayling Billy railway line from Hayling bridge south we will cross over onto the island and follow in some very historical tracks. The scenery along the trail is second to none and may surprise you. There is the possibility of seeing some very surprising wildlife including the seals that frequent the harbour waters. The island is also known for its oyster beds. The flora along the path is part of a managed scientific planting area and if you are a bird lover there is much to see all year round with the constant changing of the migratory seasons, so bring your binoculars! The walk is linear with a lovely pub just across the bridge at the end for a cup of tea to warm up after the bracing sea air!!
Meeting point: This walk starts at the amenity car park at the southern end of Hayling Bridge. To reach it from Emsworth, drive west onto the A27 then come off immediately onto the A3023 towards Hayling Island.
After passing over the bridge there is a small turning on the right which leads into the car park. If the car park is full, you can park the other side of the bridge in the car park adjacent to the Ship Inn.
What to bring: Bring snacks and drinks and weather appropriate clothing including suitable footwear (wellies as it can be wet)!
Walking difficulty: Length is 9.6km of fairly easy if a bit wet and muddy coastal path walking
Time: 10.30am - 13.30pm
